Gregg Smith, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Gregg Smith is a founder of Proximiti and serves as its CEO.  Smith co-founded Premiere Global Services Inc. in 1991 (still publicly traded) and then Z-Tel Technologies, Inc. that went public in 1996.  His companies focus on adding intelligence to core communications services to add value for service providers and also for end users.  Smith is the major shareholder and investor in Proximiti.  His companies have raised over $200MM in public financing and over $100MM in private financings. 

Prior to working in the communications industry, Smith was a banker for Chase and Bank of America in commercial lending positions.  He also served as a financial consultant for technology companies in the late 1980s and early 1990s.  He is a graduate of the University of Virginia (1981) and resides in Tampa, Florida. 

James Gledhill, Chief Technology Officer

James Gledhill returned full time to Proximiti in 2017.  An initial founder of Proximiti in 2005, James has served in senior roles related to developing and deploying cutting edge network architecture with Dialogic, ThruPoint, Ubiquity and Z-Tel Technologies.  In these positions, he has conceptualized, architected, developed, deployed and operated VoIP based telephony solutions for carriers operating on a national scale.  Through exposure to different solution environments, James has developed world class experience relative to WebRTC (Clients and Proxies), NAT Traversal SBCs, Carrier interaction SBCs, Global Call Routing, IVR capabilities and RESTful API functionality.

Initially starting as a programmer, Mr. Gledhill has been involved within the communications industry since 1985.  As a highly sought industry consultant and advisor, he has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to successfully lead and direct teams utilizing advancing technologies to create next generation networks.

Don Davis, Chief Financial Officer

Don Davis joined Proximiti in June of 2007 as Chief Financial Officer after serving as Acting CFO of Trinsic, Inc.  During his seven year tenure with Trinsic/Z-Tel, Mr. Davis spearheaded several strategic initiatives, including the company’s retail roll-out into 49 states and negotiation/implementation of wholesale service arrangements with MCI and Sprint.  From 1997 till 1999, he served as Senior Director-Industry Policy for Intermedia Communications, Inc. and in that role developed and implemented corporate policy initiatives involving regulatory bodies and the Bell Companies.  Before joining Intermedia, Mr. Davis served for 22 years in various positions of increasing responsibility with BellSouth subsidiaries.  Mr. Davis holds a BBA from the University of Georgia and a MBA from the University of Alabama - Birmingham. 

Gary Hetrick, SVP Operations

Gary Hetrick has been with Proximiti since founded in 2004 and is responsible for the design, maintenance and operation of the company’s network and computing resources.  Hetrick was previously with Z-Tel Communications as Manager of Network Design and Operations where he managed an expert team of voice and data network engineers and technicians who designed and supported the underlying network infrastructure for the company.

Earlier, Hetrick was with Bank of America, including several of its predecessor banking companies, for 22 years.  As Senior Vice President in project management he was instrumental in the design and implementation of automated systems and networks for the bank’s extensive network of branch banks and call centers.  Hetrick started working in computer and network technology while in high school, initially as a mainframe computer operator, and has continued on that path throughout his career.
